Rhork

HOME WORLD: Vollis
STAR SYSTEM: Drog
QUADRANT: Alpha

PHYSICAL STRUCTURE

The Rhork are an imposing species, reaching nearly 7 feet in height and bearing a powerful physique. Their skin is incredibly tough, resembling natural armor plating that repels most minor injuries and environmental hazards. The skin varies in shades of slate gray to deep blue, often mottled or striped, and feels rough to the touch. Their heads are broad and streamlined, with pronounced jaws filled with rows of carnivorous teeth. Okamir, the warrior caste, sport a prominent cranial fin-shaped horn atop their heads, which serves as both a weapon and a badge of status. Small eyes, adapted for both underwater and terrestrial vision, are set forward on their faces, granting keen binocular sight. Rhork hands and feet are webbed, with strong claws designed for gripping rocky seafloors or scaling rugged terrain. They wear little clothing outside of utility belts or weather gear, relying on their natural resilience for protection.

SENSES

Vision: Rhork possess excellent vision in both air and water, able to see clearly at great depths and in murky conditions.
Smell: Their sense of smell is acute, particularly underwater, aiding in the tracking of prey or kin.
Hearing: Specialized inner ear structures allow them to detect low-frequency vibrations and sounds, useful for communication and environmental awareness both on land and beneath the waves.
Disease Immunity: Rhork are naturally immune to most known diseases, an adaptation from their carnivorous diet and diverse habitats.

SPEECH

Rhork language is deep and resonant, utilizing guttural tones, rumbling growls, and sharp clicks—sounds that carry well both underwater and through the air. Communication is supported by body language, such as jaw displays, horn postures (especially among Okamir), and tail movements. When speaking galactic languages, their voices are powerful, with a tendency to emphasize consonants and speak in short, direct sentences.

SOCIETY AND PHILOSOPHY

Rhork society is structured around two distinct castes: the Rakarion and the Okamir. The Rakarion are the intellectual elite—engineers, architects, and leaders—valued for their strategic thinking and innovation. The Okamir serve as the soldiers and protectors, renowned for their physical prowess and tactical acumen. This caste system is respected and rarely challenged, with each caste contributing vitally to the survival and prosperity of the species.

CULTURAL BACKGROUND

Originating from Vollis, a world dominated by vast oceans and rocky coastlines, Rhork are equally at home on land and in water. Their adaptability has led to a culture that prizes strength, loyalty, and the bond of family. Carnivorous by nature, they are unpicky eaters; meals are communal, and sharing meat is a gesture of trust. The yearly gathering known as “The Feast” is the most important event in Rhork culture, drawing families from across the galaxy back to Vollis for ritual hunting, feasting, and reaffirming family ties.

CULTURAL BACKGROUND

Loyalty: Rhork are fiercely loyal to friends, family, and employers. Betrayal is nearly unheard of and severely punished.
Duty: Once committed to a task or contract, a Rhork will see it through to the end, regardless of obstacles.
Family: Strong family bonds are at the core of Rhork society, with regular communication and annual reunions.
Adaptability: Their dual nature—land and sea—has fostered a respect for versatility and resilience.

SKILLS AND TRADITION

Combat Mastery: Okamir are formidable warriors, trained from youth in both armed and unarmed combat.
Engineering and Design: Rakarion are renowned for their innovative architecture, shipbuilding, and mechanical expertise.
Survival: All Rhork excel in survival skills, able to thrive in harsh environments and adapt to new challenges.
Tracking and Hunting: Their senses make them excellent hunters, both on land and underwater.

COMMUNITY AND FAMILY

Rhork kin-groups are tightly knit, with extended families supporting each other across vast distances. Even Rhork who venture far from Vollis remain in close contact with their kin, and all are expected to return home for “The Feast.” Friendships are lifelong and treated with the same seriousness as family ties; once a Rhork calls someone a friend, that bond is unbreakable.
